Luxury Bushland Sactuary

Nestled in Northbridge on an extraordinary site, this residence offers uninterrupted views of the bridge and city to the south, while the northern aspect faces a lush 16-meter cliff side, resembling a private bushland sanctuary. The unique topography and site constraints inspired a design that works harmoniously with the surroundings.

The residence is skillfully positioned to accommodate existing features such as a front-facing tennis court, a west-facing pool, an east-facing driveway and stormwater easement, optimizing the property's footprint. The home is thoughtfully set back from the northern cliff face to preserve the natural environment, safeguarding existing trees.

The three-story home, accessible via a private driveway, unfolds along a central axis connecting its main wings. Vertical playfulness is expressed through voids and angles, with a slight curve in the main stairwell wall leading to double-height glazing that captures the natural views, creating a welcoming visual experience. The lower level opens onto the tennis court, featuring a full-length veranda, guest bed, and activity room. A passageway links the garage and storage area to the main entry, creating a convenient drop-off zone with ample storage space for sports equipment.

The main floor is divided into two living zones, with the northwest side serving as the primary family gathering space. This area provides access to the existing pool terrace, with stackable doors leading to a covered alfresco and the pool terrace. The secondary living zone, a multipurpose room with a library and study/music zone, opens onto a deck space on the northern side.

The top level houses the parents' retreat and three additional bedrooms, with a central stairwell separating the parent's bedroom. The exterior combines contemporary warmth with a façade facing the tennis court, supported by piers creating rhythm and symmetry.

The Site had many challenges, such as integrating the existing pool and tennis court with the new home. Flood impacts combined with councils and building envelope height restrictions were met with innovative solutions. The structure features brick and concrete, with waterproof blockwork forming the subfloor area. Interior selections were carefully curated, and the pool and landscaping were refurbished and finished.

This residence is a testament to thoughtful design, seamlessly blending and respecting the unique natural rock face setting.
